A WOMAN AND THE WILL TO GO ON

I have held this thought that if a woman swore to do a thing she could go all the way” I mean all it takes to get that thing done.  I believe what makes a woman different from a man is extra patience and faith. This gives birth to the will to go on. What is in a woman that makes Sidney Sheldon and James hardly chase use then every time. Is it that complexity or that extra strength? I don’t think we can ever understand them completely. I only now wonder how many would agree.

FROM SKIMPY TO CLASSY

Classy is elegant and tasteful; elegance is effortless beauty, simplicity and a little show of wealth. The idea of dresses these days made to depict sexiness of a woman is not what bringing out a woman’s beauty should be all about. The true definition of a woman’s clothing on her body should be just one word. “ELEGANT” You don’t need to wear a skimpy or uncomfortably tight clothing to be sexy or to look tasteful and young.  Just add confidence to whatever you wear and make sure you are comfortable in it.

I didn’t want to look too chunky or overly dressed in fact I never want to look overly dressed or look like I am trying to make an effort, it makes me edgy. Some people say that they like the fact that I like being natural but I know I don’t like been all natural. It’s cool for a girl to look colourful, it is fun and appealing. But too much is never it. Too much effort is never it.

We understand that nobody can be like us and have our face or ass or body shape exactly. It’s not about being nonchalant; it’s about being comfortable with you. Put on good clothing and a good make up. Note that make up cannot change your face, so no matter how much you try to put it, you only end up creating a blunder. It can only enhance and highlight you own features so let it do so. Also everybody cannot like you and we all know that so we have to deal with it.

MONEY COLLECTION ON EAST-WEST ROAD.

Transportation on a the East-West road in Port Harcourt has never been easier since the long awaited road had finally been dualized and expanded. I thought the Government had banned road blocks, but this seems to be the public experience on the road.
My taxi was promptly halted as the driver approached the police. Private cars are not stopped or even halted for a bit..

The police man stood stoic almost at thee middle of the road., with his dark shades pressing his nose as it cased his eyes. One would think they were doing a road search for the most wanted man in the world.
'Park that Side' he gestured to the corner of the road.  "Oga wetin happen, my number na 108."
He said, grudgingly drove out of the road. "Why dem go stop only transport car? " A man asked behind me.  'Now they stop to collect #100 for no reason and give the cab a number like its some sort of pew or toll gate charade and wait for the next cab to come by.
After the afternoon period, another set comes around in the evening and start waiting to collect money all over again.
Its either the police at these areas do not have a Job description anymore or thier bosses are now part of the whole skim.  We cant call a police if we saw or crime or where attacked, They give an excuse or victimize you instead.
. Now the come back trend is collect money from people who are trying to get thier little daily bread.
I ask 'will that #100 make they richer or better.'  Then come to think of it, thats somebody father or husband, brother ;collecting this money from somebody elses.
Money should not define us but pride and dignity.  It time for us to speak out, where ever we are in a bus or taxi were we see the realities of everyday life.  Tell him "this thing is bad, it is wrong. "  When we start opening our mouth to stand up for what is right. Then good will prevail.

As said "Evil prevail when good men do nothing."  In am a good citizen and I will do something from where I am.
Let your opinion be heard today:dont bite your tongue.
WE WILL BUILD A BETTER COUNTRY BY OURSELVES.

WE

No dont try to go far away, you are all we have.
Dont try to get angry with us, you are all we have.
There is no other help to call.

No dont try to fight between yourselves
We will need both your strengths
To save us all.

Please let's choose to have ourselves
We are all we know
Please lets choose not to not care
It has never helped

A little wish from a lone heart
And wishes from lone hearts
Which makes us one without a word
Lets find the words,
We are all we have.

Kisses in the air

Kisses in the air, Kisses in the air
I sent my kisses far to you
It raced faced to its direction
Seeing ur cheeks flare up in roses

My heart leaps out in the sun
To see you not weary of my kisses

My kisses that is from me to you.....

30 DAYS IN ATLANTA (A REVIEW

Ok so I have never been a huge fan of Nigerian movies after the 90's when we had movies that actually had a story line like (if you are a 90 or 00 baby look away now)  Nneka The Pretty Serpent, Taboo, Rattlesnake (My best Nigerian movie), Evil passion etc. Then our producers probably started smoking that green stuff and started getting all kinds of weird inspirations and all hell broke loose: movies were made in 4 days. The story was stretched (I think I saw a movie with 8 parts, Lord have mercy). It was just crazy. Let me not even start with our Ghanaian neighbors.
Anyway all these factors made me [and any sensible Nigerian excluding some ladies which regrettably happens to include my younger sister (we wan carry her go do deliverance for MFM)] stay away from Nollywood.
But as with any dark age, light began to emerge from the end of the tunnel (it’s a very long tunnel). So on this faithful day, my bro and sisters decided to go and see a movie at genesis cinema in Port Harcourt. On getting there, the only movie showing was.........................you guessed right; A Nigerian movie..

BOOK AND MOVIE REVIEWS

Half of a yellow Sun was exquisitely written. That would be the word.  It was ten steps higher in every literary ramification than Chimamanda's first book: Purple Hibiscus. It was bold and very classical not leaving out the originality of the Nigerian origins.

A love story with the harsh grippings of the 1966 pogrom and the Biafran war in its back ground. It resounds the Nigerian history that so many citizens hardly know or care to know.  Therefore giving a subtle platform in passing the horror and ambience of what the country exuded at that time.

Poetry

OUR FUTURE

Like the Oceans drink from the rivers
Like the plant drink from the soil
I drink from you,  hope.
Your pictures of glory and happiness
It sets in the heart ; a rock
Where our eyes must fail us, less we wont conceed to thee.
With our eyes shut we look into you
Oh! How our hearts see you and wait for our hand to touch you.
How we smile when our eyes has not yet seen. Do our choices grow cold?
Is it the best choice?
