Ok so I have never been a huge fan of
Nigerian movies after the 90's when we had movies that actually had a story
line like (if you are a 90 or 00 baby look away now) Nneka The Pretty Serpent, Taboo, Rattlesnake
(My best Nigerian movie), Evil passion etc. Then our producers probably started
smoking that green stuff and started getting all kinds of weird inspirations
and all hell broke loose: movies were made in 4 days. The story was stretched
(I think I saw a movie with 8 parts, Lord have mercy). It was just crazy. Let
me not even start with our Ghanaian neighbors.
Anyway all these factors made me [and any
sensible Nigerian excluding some ladies which regrettably happens to include my
younger sister (we wan carry her go do
deliverance for MFM)] stay away from Nollywood.
But as with
any dark age, light began to emerge from the end of the tunnel (it’s a very
long tunnel). So on this faithful day, my bro and sisters decided to go and see
a movie at genesis cinema in Port Harcourt. On getting there, the only movie showing
was.........................you guessed right; A Nigerian movie..
and just as we were about to run away my little sister gave us the best puppy eyes and before you could say Nollywood we were getting 5 tickets to see Phone Swap. With great trepidation we filed into the theater like lambs to the slaughter. The movie began and since we were already biased it took a while and long story short we enjoyed the movie and faith started getting built up.

Fast forward some years later and there was
this fine chick (story for another day) I wanted to go see a movie with and yes
it was 30 days in Atlanta. The rave of AY making a movie. I personally didn’t
like Ay, I think he tries too hard, in fact he is not funny to me.
But like all biases there comes a turning
point and this was it for Mr Ay. Men the movie was freaking funny from the
beginning till the end and the best part was the Chick was laughing all through
and I was feeling like a badoo.
The story is
about two cousins that won a lucky trip for 30 days in Atlanta. Just Imagine a
Warri boy that have not crossed Lagos going to Atlanta; Comedy of errors. Ramsey
was stellar. It was the classic combo of dumb and smarts and in this case the dumbo (Ay) was stealing the show.
I really don’t
want to give away too much but please go see this movie and if you don’t like
it ask me for a refund (good luck!!) At the rate this is going am sure in no
time we would have our Nollywood back.
